Easy How to Draw the Golden Gate Bridge Tutorial and Coloring Page

Below you’ll find an easy step-by-step tutorial for how to draw the Golden Gate Bridge and a Golden Gate Bridge Coloring Page. It gets a little easier to do when you make it a silhouette against a pretty sunset.

Golden Gate Bridge Drawing

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the bay in San Francisco and is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of California. It is also possibly one of the most photographed bridges in the world. Now students of all ages can learn how to draw the Golden Gate bridge, one step at a time.

At first glance, this bridge might look a little complex to draw, but it helps to break it down into some simple shapes. Basically, students will be drawing the road, adding the vertical posts, draping cables along the top, and finishing with lots of connecting vertical lines. Careful drawing is still called for, of course, which is true for any mechanical type of drawing, but the results will be well worth it.

When it comes to coloring, I recommend a permanent black marker and crayons. No need to worry about bleeding as the marker will make a nice black shadow even if crayons bump into it bit. And if you press hard and color carefully with warm colors and a deep blue ocean, you’ll end up with quite a sunset drawing of this famous California landmark.

Getting Started with Drawing Guides

The best way to get students off to a good start to any drawing lesson is to show them how to use guides as a reference point.

You may have noticed that all of the tutorials on this site have a dashed line running through the center of each step, in both horizontal and vertical directions. If students make their own centered lines on their own paper, before drawing, they will have an easy reference to follow.

Drawing skills are all about getting the size and placement of lines on paper, so having some visual reference point to get started, will always help anyone learn how to be a little more accurate.

So does that mean students need to get out a ruler to draw a big fat line down the center of their paper before they start? Goodness no, please don’t! That will most likely be hard to erase and distract from any finished art. No, simply fold the sheet of paper in half both ways, make a crease, and unfold. The beauty is that by the time the drawing is done and colored in, the creases will disappear.
